Will 5 Billion Social Media Users Flock To These Decentralized Platforms?
Whether it be because of censorship, ownership, or privacy, social media users will flock to decentralized Web3 platforms. Could this project lay the groundwork for a new paradigm in digital connecting?
I'm probably not the best candidate to write this article. I've never posted on Facebook, and the picture on my LinkedIn profile is over 15 years old. I've got a lot more hair, and it isn't grey. I wouldn't say I like the constant emails I get from LinkedIn, but I have never taken the time to reset my password and change my email notifications. Until recently, social media was a nuisance to me.
I'm unsure if I'm anti-social, a Luddite, or fearful of getting sucked into social media. I guess that's something for me to explore another time and circle back with you. In the meantime, there is no dispute that I am in the minority by not spending large swaths of time on social media platforms. Of the nearly 8 billion people worldwide, 5 billion use social media.
Technically, I'm in this group. But if social media were like drinking alcohol, I'd argue I'm like the guy who gets drunk on New Year's. Meanwhile, I'm sure many people are like the…
