Now I See Why I Feel Poorer
When I graduated college over 20 years ago, my parents gifted me a new tailored suit for job interviews. I remember how we left a little room in the waist in case I gained some weight. The suit has served me well over the past two decades, not only for job interviews but also for different occasions where I had to dress up.
Recently, I had to put the suit on again and noticed it was hard to button the pants. Also, when I buttoned the jacket, it had pull marks showing the strain my trusted suit was experiencing. The tailored suit that once made me feel like a million bucks now made me feel like an older and fatter version of myself.
When I thought about it, it all made sense. I had a bad injury about five years ago and gave up on strenuous exercise at that time. Over the past few years, I used to walk five days a week, but now that number has been reduced to zero over the last 12 months. Further, my eating habits greatly changed during the pandemic, and I never readjusted them. In other words, too much chips, ice cream, and fast food was now reflected in my lazy, aging body.
