Maybe a medium lite app that is free and includes advertising. YouTube has an option to not pay for ads. Give the consumer the option whether they want to pay the subscription. If they don’t, let them read with ads.

Medium should also require writers to pay in order to publish content. I think the ad-free experience is worth a lot more than $5/month. Not everyone will agree of course.
