I like the points that you bring up. I do think that gas vehicles will still exist, but I think that EV's will flip ICE engines by 2030. I'm not saying that it's justified, but here are counterpoints to your arguments:

1) Battery power will be improved upon. Remember cell phones 20 years ago where you had a detachable battery that had to be charged? Today's cell phones can run much longer and perform more difficult tasks. We've already seen range on EVs double in the past 9 years.

2) The government wants to spend money on being green. Expect incentives, tax rebates, and everything else to increase charging stations and efficiency. This is the current Achilles heal holding people back from EVs.

3) The technology will solve this. You can get a good charge at a Tesla supercharger in about 15 minutes. Keep in mind that this is also one of the benefits of EVs. You can charge it while you sleepl.

4) All of our movements are already tracked from our smartphones. It doesn't keep 99% of people from having smartphones.

5) Anything can get hacked nowadays. It doesn't keep people from doing online banking, flying in a plane, or most other normal things. Most people probably don't feel that they would be targeted by a hacker just like they don't fear a car-bomb when they turn on the ignition of their ICE vehicle.

6) This is the weakest argument in my opinion. The US doesn't want dependence on other nations for their oil. For the first time in my life, I am seeing gas stations closing. This is the canary in the coal mine.

7) EVs are going down in price. Government subsidies will most likely remain. Just look at the sales data. ICE is on the wrong side of history.

Once automatic driving hits all EV vehicles and they make charging more accessible, it's game over for ICE vehicles. They may still exist for commercial vehicles. I don't own an EV. I like my ICE vehicle, but this is the first time that I've actually considered switching over. The biggest concern is range anxiety and charge time. This will be solved.

Thanks for the article. I'm interested to see if you are right!
