I’ve been sober from gas pump price shock for three weeks. I’d love to tell you it was hard to quit, but it wasn’t. And now that I’ve gone three weeks, I’m confident I could go the rest of my life without having to make an unprotected u-turn to save five cents a gallon. How it happened
The lease on my sedan was coming up. Everyone in my family hated the old car. The A/C stunk, there was no room in the backseat, and it got around 20 miles per gallon. Paying $100 for a tank fillup was excruciating. It was getting to the point where filling my gas tank had a negative impact on my life. I didn’t want to go anywhere. My wife began resenting how I based our free-time decisions on how far away a destination was. Meanwhile, my kids wanted to attend summer camp beyond 3 miles from our house. Times were tough.
