Good observation. However, I am unsure what you are trying to say here? I am not taking any shot at these professions. I’ve had several undesirable jobs and learned from each one of them.
My argument is that if everyone takes the writer's approach of "checking out," our world will be a significantly worse place.
When the author writes: " I don’t see a single career path that allows me to be anything other than miserable or destitute," I believe it shows her lack of understanding and unrealistic idealism.
I am saddened that apathy has replaced motivation. There is no law that you have to have a nice car, nice house, or work 60 hours per week at a job you hate.
However, if you want to have children, be comfortable, and enjoy the great things that our lives offer, the majority will have to assimilate in some capacity.
I would argue that the writer needs to understand her expectations and goals and find the path that aligns to said goals.She discusses many problems but offers few answers other than "opt out."
